New york sour
I love a good red wine as much as I love a good cocktail. Cabernet sauvignon is my favorite go to type, and if the description has words such as oak, leather, cherry, or chocolate, I'm all about it. If it's too acidic or tart, it's going down the drain. I'm not really a wine connoisseur, but I know what I like and don't like.
Purchasing bottles of wine is a rare occasion for me. Unless it's for a dinner party, I can never finish a whole bottle before it turns into vinegar. But I recently found a really cheap $7 bottle from Trader Joe's that fits my palette. It's the Black Mountain 2014 cab. If it sounds like my taste fits yours, go try it! I wanted to finish the recent bottle I opened but was already sick of drinking wine, so I made a New York sour with it and it was a nice change :)
New York Sour
- 1 3/4 oz rye whiskey (I used Bulleit Rye)
- 3/4 oz simple syrup
- 3/4 oz lemon juice
- 3/4 oz dry red wine (Black Mountain 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon)
- Luxardo Maraschino cherries (for garnish)
In a shaker, combine ice and the top three ingredients and shake. Strain into a glass with icecube(s). Using a spoon, carefully transfer the red wine on top of the drink without letting them mix. Garnish with maraschino cherries.
